Wynwood is known for its eclectic art, indie films, trendy food, diverse music and iconic fashion. Its contemporary environment is just oozing with creativity. Every space around you is covered in art by locals, unknowns, and up and coming artists. Summer is here, and May is a great reason to check out the area. Here are some things to do in Wynwood this May:
1. O Cinema
O Cinema is an indie theater that offers showings of films and documentaries, ranging from 1970’s classics to unique foreign films and modern documentaries. This May, O Cinema is offering brilliant films that can’t be missed. Buy tickets for movies including, IRIS, Grey Gardens, Heaven Adores You and Saint Laurent at o-cinema.org.
O’Cinema is offering showings for IRIS May 8 through May 14, 2015. IRIS is a documentary by Albert Maysles about a 93 year old fashion icon and her passion and perspective on fashion, art and life.
2. Wynwood Art District Walking Food Tour
There are so many great restaurants, cafes and eateries in Wynwood, just going to one of them is not enough. The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse provides artists and audiences a creative and evolving experience. This May, contemporary performances by Rosie Herrera and Here & Now: 2015 will be featured and are likely to satisfy your artistic cravings.
The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse was created by the Miami Light Project and is located at 404 NW 26 St, Miami, FL 33127. Tickets can be bought at miamilightproject.com. Here & Now: 2015 will be performing from May 7- 9 and May 14-16. Rosie Herrera, Cookie’s Kid will be showing from May 28-30.
4. Second Saturdays, Art Walk
How about just seeing some awesome art, having some brews and exploring the area? Hit up Wynwood the 2nd Saturday of every month for the popular Wynwood Art Walk. Here you can visit urban art galleries, check out alternative art studios and displays, view street art from local and international artists, and basically see what Wynwood is all about. Plenty of entertainment and a variety of restaurants and food trucks for everyone. Typically starts at 6PM.
5. Wynwood Brewing Company
Sometimes there’s nothing better than a cold, craft beer. Beer connoisseurs and local beer fans will love Wynwood Brewing Company as they brew unique, fresh, craft beer daily. Check out Wynwood Brewing Company for a taste of Wynwood. The brewery hosts tours daily and has special promotions throughout the month including their Growler Hour, Ladies Night, and In the Biz 4 the Biz. Not to mention the delicious food trucks for all those who get the munchies.
